About Us

Africa Insight was established in 1999 in response to
growing demand for activities in and around Gaborone.

We started with short tours around the city,
and this quickly expanded into weekend breaks. We now have
departures every weekend
into the Kalahari Desert,
and only 4 participants necessary!

Notable events we are proud to share:

In 2003 we secured the exclusive tourism rights
to Alexander McCall Smith’s No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency
series of books.

Although we did offer 3 tours based on these stories we have recently consolidated these back to 2 tour options. (booking essential).
For a time we included sites featured in the HBO/BBC television production, however as these no longer exist we once again stick to the real stories!

In 2006 we were included in the new book,
Africa: Continent of Economic Opportunities (STE, June '06)
by Dave Fick, as an example of new and sustainable investment,
and business success, for putting Gaborone, Botswana on the tourist map.
As a result we have been nominated for several SMME awards.

In 2006 and 2007 the Independent on Sunday
Travel Supplement (UK) listed our
No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency Tours
in their annual Top 12 Activity Holidays in Africa.

See what the excitement is all about - book a tour now!

We were privileged to introduce Oscar winning director
the late Anthony Minghella to the President of Botswana,
Festus Mogae, in 2007 and to show him and his team the sites of Gaborone.

While on this trip he and producer Amy J Moore decided that
the No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency television series should be filmed in Gaborone.

In 2008 we introduced our guaranteed
departures
into the Kalahari Desert for our Predator Weekends,
departing every Saturday morning from Gaborone.

Join us for a fine weekend of adventure, wildlife and fun!
Only 4 participants needed!.

We were delighted to be included in CNBC Africa's lineup
of Africa's most successful small companies in their new 12 part television series,
"Doing Business in Africa", broadcast February 2009.

We were the first safari operator in Botswana to
provide wheelchair access for physically disabled travellers.
This was recognised with our inclusion in the new Bradt Travel Guide,
Access Africa: Safaris for People with Limited Mobility (Bradt, Sept. '09).

Africa Insight became an accredited partner of BBC
Worldwide broadcasting in 2006.
We also work with Reuters, NBC, CNBC, Mnet, AP and various independent production companies.

Africa Insight has itself been featured on Radio Botswana, BBC World Service Radio, Mnet Television, BBC Television, NBC Today Show, CNBC Africa, Voice of America Television and in a host of travel pages worldwide. Recently featured in the lifestyle magazines Harpers Bazaar (Dubai, Feb '09) and Kodin (Finland, March '10) and the new Bradt Access Africa travel Guide (Sept '09).
